PANAMA CITY, November 1, 2026 — President José Raúl Mulino said the government’s earthquake-recovery effort would continue until affected Panamanians have housing, while also referring to additional material damage reported in communities in Coclé.

The government’s stated commitment

The statement was made during a Children’s Day activity at Parque Recreativo Omar attended by the president, the first lady and members of the government. Mulino said support for people affected by the October 9 earthquake would continue and linked the response to transparency and oversight by the Comptroller General’s Office.

That is a policy commitment, not a completed housing-delivery count. The practical test will be the pace of technical assessments, the publication of assistance criteria and clear information for households whose homes remain unsafe or damaged.

Where damage was mentioned

The presidency said material effects had been reported in homes in Bajo Corral, Chepo Las Minas and other locations in Coclé following the latest seismic activity. Residents should continue to rely on technical inspections and official local instructions when deciding whether a structure is safe to occupy.

What recovery requires

Recovery after an earthquake involves more than emergency aid. It depends on documented damage assessments, temporary support when needed, repairs or reconstruction, and public updates that explain who is eligible for each program. Reporting new damage promptly through the appropriate local authorities can help ensure that an assessment is recorded.
