Editorial Policy
This policy explains how Panama Now Online (PNO) produces and labels its content.
News and opinion are labelled separately
News briefs report what happened and what officials, institutions or other news organisations have said. Opinion and commentary, including the columns by “JB” Bryson in the “JB” section and pieces labelled as editorials or rants, express the author’s own views. Opinion pieces are labelled as opinion and are not presented as straight news reporting.
Sourcing and attribution
- Factual claims in news briefs are attributed to their source, such as a government body, a public institution or a named Panamanian news organisation.
- Where a brief is based on another publication’s reporting, that publication is named and linked in the article.
- We do not invent quotes, figures or names. If information is unconfirmed or still developing, we say so.
How news briefs are prepared
Some news briefs are prepared with the help of automated tools that summarise and translate reporting already published by Panamanian news organisations. These briefs may only use information contained in the original source, and each names and links that source. Opinion columns are written by their named authors.
Contributions from readers and guest authors
Editorial contributions are published under the Editorial Contribution label and represent the views of their authors. Contributors must disclose any financial or personal interest in the subject. We may edit contributions for length, clarity and legal risk.
Advertising and sponsored content
Advertising is kept separate from editorial content and is labelled. Paid or sponsored links are marked with rel="sponsored". Advertisers do not decide what we report.
