Qatar, located in the Arabian peninsula, will play the Copa América of Brazil-2019 as a guest team, a spokesman for the Qatar Football Association said yesterday in Doha. “Qatar will play the Copa América in 2019, it’s a great opportunity for us to participate in that tournament,” the spokesperson told AFP.
The invitation was accepted by the president of the Qatar Football Association, Hamad Bin Khalifa Bin Ahmed Al-Thani , who is in Argentina in the framework of the congress of the Confederation of South America (Conmebol), said the spokesman. The host country of the 2022 World Cup is one of the six non-South American countries that could participate in the tournament, which will be held between June and July 2019 in Brazil.
Other options would be China, Japan and Mexico to face the greats of South America; Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay. The tournament will have 16 participants.
