JB OP Ed: While I always love pieces in “International” periodicals and Magazines that show how PANAMA is such a GREAT choice for “RETRIREES: and “EX-PATS”, I have learned very well that you can’t believe all the shiny ads and pumped up hype during the solicitation process. It can get you punch drunk on visions of warm sunrises over tranquil beaches in your own piece of paradise. But that is the dangling carrot. You could very well end up with issues like “NO TITLE”- “NO ENERGY SERVICES (at least LEGALLY PROVIDED”- “NO CLEAN WATER”- “POOR SANITATION”- “ECONOMIC BLACKMAIL and INTIMIDATION”, all with a very SHADY and ASCHAIC LEGAL APPARATUS LEFT AS YOUR ADVOCATE-
ASK “RED FROG BEACH and RESORT” CONDO BUYERS!!!!!!
These articles are generally an “annual” occurrence. Most likely purchased by the Division of Tourism, or at least encouraged by. I as an EX-Pat for over a DECADE agree with MOST if not ALL of the good points.
But NO story is always GOOD. There is a very sketchy and shady side to purchase of land in PANAMA, and the best way to avoid it to do your research without the distraction of “VISUAL HYPNOSIS” of seniors walking on a dimming sunset beach, or sittin in a tub like a CIALIS ad. If your DEVELOPERS are blatant LYING SCUMBAGS you will end up in a 20 year quagmire that essentially envelops the golden years of your life.
There ARE very REPUTABLE builders and PROJECTS on horizon that PNO will be MORE THAN HAPPY to provide commnetary and VET for you. But BEFORE you sign a check or send a wire, ASK a SHIT TON of questions.

Housing options range from gated condo complexes to expansive mansions. A lively portion of the beach features vendors, snack bars, and live music, while quieter areas are stretches of white-sandy beach. A one-bedroom apartment here can be as low as $800. If you are looking to purchase a home or condo, prices can start as low as $100,000 to over $2 million.
The best places to retire in Panama for scenery and serenity.
Not everyone retiring in Panama wants to replicate the urban life back home. Many seek refuge from the hectic pace of their working years and envision a slower rhythm amidst verdant scenery. Located in the Chiriquí province near the Costa Rican border, the mountain town of Boquete is a magnet for immigrants seeking serenity without sacrificing most amenities. With spring-like year-round temperatures averaging in the 70s, Boquete offers an array of nature-oriented activities, plus tennis and golf. There are convenient medical clinics, cafes, and coffee houses for socializing, a museum, cultural activities, and annual festivals.
Another community attracting more attention is the Caribbean town of Bocas del Toro. Situated in the northeast corner of the country, hugging the border with Costa Rica, Bocas del Toro is all about off-the-beaten-path, laid-back vibes and an affordable price point. Apartment rentals start at around $600 per month. Overwater bungalows and brightly painted buildings dot the landscape, while bars with live music and cultural celebrations help immigrants connect to local culture.
