Panama City Opens B/.4.5 Million Bid to Rehabilitate Four Municipal Pools
PANAMA CITY, July 24, 2026 – The Municipality of Panama opened a public bid to rehabilitate four municipal pools with a B/.4.5 million investment from property-tax funds.
The project covers Villa Caceres and Alma Osorio in Betania, the San Francisco pool and San Miguel in Calidonia. Telemetro reported that the pools are out of operation because of structural problems, leaks and machinery failures identified in technical inspections.
The Alma Osorio pool requires total intervention and will be demolished and rebuilt. The other pools are expected to receive infrastructure rehabilitation, finishes, lighting and improvements to nearby public spaces.
The contract includes three years of maintenance, split between labor warranty and materials coverage. That detail is important because public recreation facilities often fail when maintenance is not funded after construction.
The story is shareable because pools are community infrastructure. Families, older adults, students and sports groups all notice when recreational spaces reopen or remain closed.
