BDA Recovers B/.1.46 Million in Loan Collections During Cleanup Push
PANAMA CITY, July 24, 2026 – The Banco de Desarrollo Agropecuario reported that it recovered B/.1,461,467.78 through coactive collection processes nationwide as of July 15, 2026.
Telemetro reported that B/.1,248,976.90 of the recovered amount corresponds to capital and B/.212,490.88 to interest. The bank linked the result to its institutional transformation and efforts to clean up older credit portfolios.
The story matters because the BDA is meant to support micro and small producers. Recovering overdue loans can strengthen the institution’s ability to lend again, but collections must also be balanced against the financial realities of producers facing climate and market pressure.
May 2026 was reported as the strongest month for recovery, with more than B/.626,000 collected through legal processes handled by the bank’s executing judges.
The viral hook is accountability. Public banks face pressure to show that credit programs are not only disbursed, but also tracked, recovered and recycled into productive financing.

Why it matters
Credit recovery can affect the future lending capacity of an institution that supports farmers and rural producers.
What happens next
The BDA is expected to continue its portfolio cleanup while producers watch for new financing opportunities and repayment terms.
