Multiple tornadoes touched down on Saturday night in several counties in the state of Oklahoma (USA), causing at least two deaths and material damage that is being evaluated.
Republican Governor Kevin Stitt reported yesterday that the state remains on “high alert” for bad weather after several tornadoes and thunderstorms hit its territory since Friday.
In addition, it declared an “emergency disaster” situation in twelve counties while the level of destruction caused continues to be calculated.
“My prayers go out to those who lost loved ones when the tornadoes ripped through Oklahoma last night,” Stitt said in a statement.
Authorities confirmed that a tornado passed through western Hughes County on Saturday night, damaging several buildings in its path, and the local emergency service reported that at least four people had been injured – three of them seriously – and that an adult and a minor had died.
In Sulfur, a town of 5,000 inhabitants south of Oklahoma City, at least two tornadoes were recorded, while another hit the town of Marietta and Red Cross services have already set up a shelter there to meet the immediate needs of those affected. .
Additionally, nearly 33,000 people in Oklahoma were without power, according to the poweroutage.us portal.
