ACODECO Says Panama Has No Shortage of 25 Pound Gas Cylinders
PANAMA CITY, August 11, 2026 – ACODECO says Panama is not facing a shortage of 25-pound cooking gas cylinders, Metro Libre reported Tuesday.
The consumer protection agency said checks with the two distribution companies show availability at inspected businesses remains at 95 percent or higher, and in some places above 100 percent.
Metro Libre reported that ACODECO still identified distribution difficulties in Panama Oeste and sectors of San Miguelito, tied to security situations and communication problems with merchants during inspections.
The agency also said the 25-pound cylinder keeps a reference price of B/.4.37, although prices may vary in island areas because of transportation costs while the subsidy remains in place.
The issue matters because 25-pound cylinders are central to household cooking costs, small food businesses and daily planning for many families.
Consumer advocates cited in the report warned that market concentration leaves buyers vulnerable when distribution problems appear.
