Ten-Million-Year-Old Batfish Species Discovered in Panama
PANAMA, August 25, 2026 — Researchers have identified a new fossil batfish species in Panama from remains estimated to be around ten million years old.

The fossil is the head of a fish from the Dactylopteridae family, commonly known as flying gurnards or batfish. The discovery adds evidence about ancient marine ecosystems in the region.
