PEOPLE!!!!!! Panama is at a turning point. Look through our vast PNO archives and see how Varela proliferated a huge increase in business with the Chinese, Russia, along with all the Maduros, Ortegas, and all of the other repressive governments when it comes to Human Rights. In this article we see Panama, meeting with the nation invading a sovereign country stating they will not use the ONLY POWER PANAMA HAS, the canal to intervene and perhaps bring peace sooner. PANAMA could be the sole beacon of Latin America, and it is SHITTING the BED.  It will continue to behave like a Banana Republic and fade when it should be noticed.  Look at a fucking map, Colombia, Nicaragua, Venezuela, Bolivia,,,,,,all dangerous and amidst turmoil.  Panama could be the true democratic role model for the region, and instead it fails all the time.   Just do more ODEBRECHT business and carry on the tradition of bullshit.    OPEN LETTER to NITO.   PNO supported you vigorously and believed in your platform.  # REGRET

The secretary general of the ruling Democratic Revolutionary Party (PRD), Pedro Miguel González, faced with the war between Russia and Ukraine, stated that Panama must remain neutral in the face of any conflict and that in any case, our country must be part of the solution and not part of the problem.

González’s statement came after the visit to the PRD headquarters by the Russian ambassador in Panama, Evgeny Boykov, which, according to the PRD leader, had been awaited for several months before the crisis with Ukraine.

The PRD leader maintained that the meeting is a rapprochement of the relationship between the New Russia Party and the PRD, just as they have done at the time with the People’s Republic of China, with Spain, with Mexico and with other countries of social democracy. .

González stated that on this occasion and due to the situation, they have not been able to avoid talking about the conflict that has arisen in the Republic of Ukraine and pointed out that as a party they reaffirm the principle of free self-determination of the peoples and the non-interference of the powers in the internal affairs of other countries.

“We Panamanians were victims on many occasions during the 20th century of interventions by the United States, we rejected them at all times and we could not agree with it either,” he said.

However, he stressed that each situation has its own particularities and they cannot ignore the civil war that has been going on behind the back of the international community for 8 years after the 2014 coup in Ukraine and the attack on the civilian population of the Donbas region, he stressed.

He added that as a party historically in the region they have always advocated for peace, here the Contadora Group emerged, which led to the Rio Group that ended up pacifying Central America and “as a party also in the face of regional conflicts that have taken place in recent years as in Nicaragua, Venezuela or Cuba we have always advocated for democratic, peaceful and self-determined solutions, and this would not be the exception”.

He recalled that Panama also has a permanent Neutrality Treaty of the Canal, so taking part in a conflict of this nature may represent turning Panama into a target of attacks, for which he insisted that Panama must remain neutral in the face of any conflict.

For his part, the Russian ambassador in Panama Evgeny Boykov stated that in the meeting with the secretary general of the PRD, he had been given the opportunity to present his point of view on international affairs and the opportunity to express the approach to the situation in Ukraine.

He also said, the explanations and objectives of the operation being carried out in Ukraine and the reasons for this action were given.

He argued that as an embassy they have the mission of offering Russia’s position to public opinion in the country.

“We are very satisfied that we have here the opportunity to express our point of view to the authorities, to the Panamanian government, to public opinion, and in this case, to the leadership of the Democratic Revolutionary Party,” concluded Boykov.
