According to a report from the Epidemiology Directorate, traceability applied to this person found patient’s last close contact was on August 21 with another foreigner person.

The report specified this person began with skin and vesicular lesions symptoms on August 27.

Tests were taken and sent to the Gorgas Memorial Institute, which confirmed the contagion.

In this regard, Health Minister Luis Francisco Sucre reiterated there is already community monkeypox transmission in Panama.

Sucre added steps are being taken along with the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) for acquiring thousands of vaccines to fight off the disease.

Since past May 24, Panama declared a health alert nationwide, and epidemiological surveillance was stepped up in all health centers.
