In order to address Panama’s participation in the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee on plastic pollution, including in the marine environment (INC), the Deputy Director of International Organizations and Conferences, Ricardo Pichel, accompanied by the Department of Environment and Climate Change of the Directorate, met with the Ministry of Environment, Ángel Cárdenas, and others.

 

The session provided updates on the results of the previous rounds of the INC, as well as addressing the steps to be taken with the different sectors of national interest in view of the next round of negotiations in November of this year.  The importance of continuing to strengthen the country’s participation in multilateral spaces was highlighted, in order to manage Panama’s influence in future negotiations in a timely manner.

 

The meeting concluded with the parties’ willingness and commitment to follow up on the issues scheduled prior to the session, to be held in Busan, Republic of Korea, from November 25 to December 1, 2024.
