Five women have been murdered this year in Chiriquí, this situation keeps society worried. The etiology of this particular form of criminality is multifactorial, but what is most important for these events to occur lies in the dysfunctionality of the family, said former superior first prosecutor Edwin Álvarez Camaño.

According to the jurist, this also occurs due to the lack of adoption of preventive measures to reduce domestic violence, through educational rather than repressive initiatives. In addition, the lack of health policies aimed at controlled anger management, and the false belief that the increase in punitive sanctions is an effective deterrent for those who do not receive assistance to control their social behavior.

The first femicide occurred on March 14 in Corotú, Barú. Tamara Carpintero, 13, who was pregnant, suffocated.

On March 30, Stefannie Rodríguez, 35, was reported missing. Her body was found in Las Lomas.

Yorlenis Santos Gallardo, 15 years old, who was 4 months pregnant, was murdered on August 1 in La Florida, Tierras Altas.
