Panama Denies Entry to Canadian Citizen Over Extremist Links
PANAMA CITY, August 17, 2026 – The National Migration Service denied entry to the country to a Canadian citizen after security checks detected links to organisations that represent a threat to international peace, security and stability, as well as expressions of sympathy toward the extremist group Hamas, Metro Libre reported.
The citizen was returned to his country of origin immediately after the corresponding protocol was activated.
The detection took place during the migration verification procedures applied to everyone entering through Tocumen International Airport.
After cross-checking information and carrying out a risk analysis, authorities confirmed the alert and carried out the refusal of entry.
In a statement, the service said no indication is overlooked, and that anyone representing a security risk or maintaining links with groups that promote violence will meet an immediate and firm response at its control posts.
The entity said the measure was carried out in accordance with current regulations and repeated that its filters remain active at all points of entry to the country.

Why it matters
Tocumen is the main hub for the region, and entry refusals show how migration screening is being applied there.
What happens next
Immigration says its screening filters remain active at all entry points.
