With the new case of monkeypox confirmed this Thursday, May 4, those detected since last year have increased to 226, revealed the Department of Epidemiology of the Ministry of Health (Minsa).Of the total number of cases, according to Minsa statistics, 89 correspond to the year 2022 and 137 were confirmed during 2023.Due to this new case, the entity stressed to citizens that prevention is the most efficient weapon to avoid the spread of this disease. Of the accumulated cases, 3 patients are currently active (2 in home isolation and 1 in a medical center). While 223 ended their isolation without major setbacks. Until this May 4, only one death from monkeypox remains.According to Minsa statistics, 224 men and 2 women were infected. In addition, the distribution of cases remains in the age range between 19 and 59 years.”As the protocol dictates, the samples were sent to the Gorgas Memorial Institute where they were processed, giving positive results with monkeypox,” he said.
The corregimientos with the most confirmed cases are Bella Vista with 25; San Francisco with 21; Calidonia or La Exposición with 14, Betania with 11; Juan Díaz and Tocumen with 9, and Pueblo Nuevo, Parque Lefevre and Río Abajo with 7 each.
