Migration Service Reports Irregularities in Weekend Checks Across Panama
PANAMA CITY, July 20, 2026 – Panama’s National Migration Service reported cases of expired stays, missing work permits, legal impediments and other immigration-rule violations during weekend verification operations.
The operations, named Jupiter and Perseus, were carried out in eight provinces and comarcas. Authorities said they issued administrative citations, referred some people to administrative migration detention centers and coordinated the movement of reverse migration flows from Guna Yala toward border areas.
The agency said the checks covered Metro stations, commercial zones, service establishments, road checkpoints, transport terminals, coastal areas and border zones. Officials reviewed the status of hundreds of people from more than 20 nationalities and also provided guidance on keeping documents and residency permissions current.
Migration enforcement remains a politically sensitive issue in Panama because the country sits on major regional movement routes while also managing labor, security and humanitarian pressures.
