Panama maintains 13,732 active cases of covid-19, after registering 1,359 new positive cases this Monday, May 9, so according to the Department of Epidemiology of the Ministry of Health (Minsa) positivity reaches 22.4%.

In addition, the report detailed that in the last 24 hours there was a death due to the virus, so the sum of deaths in Panama is 8,194 people for a lethality of 1.0%.

The corregimientos and districts with the highest number of positive cases in the last hours are: Chitré, Rufina Alfaro, Juan Díaz, Penonomé and San Francisco.

In the country, 789,830 accumulated cases of covid-19 and 767,904 people recovered have been recorded to date. 6,080 new tests were applied.

Of the 13,732 active cases, 13,577 are in home isolation and 155 hospitalized. Those in isolation are divided into 13,548 at home and 29 in hotels. Those hospitalized are 136 in the ward and 19 in the ICU.

Use of masks in closed spaces is mandatory: Minister Sucre

Given the increase in cases, the Minister of Health, Luis Francisco Sucre, reiterated the call to the population to continue with the correct use of the mask.

“The elimination of masks in open spaces should not be confused, because in closed places where physical distancing is not guaranteed, as well as in offices or closed places where there is no good ventilation, the use of the mask is mandatory”, he stressed .

Sucre held a meeting this Monday with his counterpart from Education Maruja Gorday, who reiterated that despite the cases registered in some educational establishments, the school year is maintained and the work with the regionals of both ministries on traceability and containment issues will be reinforced. of the viruses.

More than 410,000 doses of pediatric vaccine have been applied

Meanwhile, according to the Expanded Program on Immunization (PAI) to date, 8,106,536 doses against covid-19 have been applied in the country; of which 3,468,719 first dose; 3,084,578 second doses, 11,103 thirds, 2,169 fourths, 1,530,426 booster 1 and 9,541 booster 2.

While of the pediatric doses to the population between 5 and 11 years, 410,589 doses have been applied.
