Arraijan Water Losses Reach 50 Percent as IDAAN Starts Leak-Control Plan
ARRAIJAN, July 25, 2026 – IDAAN has put Arraijan at the center of its water-loss campaign after reporting that the district is losing about half of the treated water produced for local residents before it reaches homes.
According to Telemetro, the area produces roughly 10 million gallons of water per day, but only about 5 million gallons are reaching users. The agency linked the losses to leaks, illegal connections and problems in the distribution network.
The issue is not only technical. For families, water loss becomes low pressure, irregular service, higher frustration and more dependence on storage tanks. For the utility, every lost gallon also means wasted treatment cost, electricity, chemicals and labor.
IDAAN is now promoting the ‘Panama sin fugas’ plan as a way to locate leaks, repair critical points and recover volume that is already being produced. If the work succeeds, improved delivery could be faster and cheaper than building new production capacity from scratch.
