In full school activity, a student was murdered and two more were injured. This month alone, 12 homicides have been registered in Colón

After a week of being closed, the Rufo A. Garay de Colón Institute cautiously opens its doors. Just five days ago, hooded subjects entered the Institute’s facilities and without saying a word attacked one of the students.

Witnesses to the painful crime reported that the gunmen forced their way into the campus, “as the inspector wouldn’t let them pass, they fired into the air and entered.”

Ixia Rodríguez, director of the educational establishment, pointed out this morning that it is a challenge to start classes again. But she asked parents for special attention to their attendees. “Parents who have or begin to have root canal problems with their children seek immediate help.”

The teacher recommended that parents rely on the churches (search for God), on the childhood and adolescence police, and talk to the school about what is happening and thus seek the help that the young person needs.

“There are programs that the authorities manage, sports that they can practice and thus change their lives,” added the educator.

Parents who arrived at the institution and who requested that their names be reserved regretted what happened and asked for greater vigilance on campus.

According to the authorities, the unfortunate event that occurred in the middle of a student fair responds to a problem between gangs. They reported that the bullets managed to wound two other students who were taken to the Manuel Amador Guerrero hospital.

12 homicides have been registered in Colón this month.

For its part, the Ministry of Education (Meduca) called for an end to the violence in this province, which has claimed the lives of more than 70 people so far this year.

“The Ministry of Education will be aware of the investigations that find those responsible for what happened (…) we call on the educational community to continue developing environments to transform the culture of violence, with tools that teach positive interpersonal relationships,” he said.
