Storms Leave Deaths and Widespread Damage in Chiriqui
DAVID, August 17, 2026 – The National Civil Protection System reported multiple impacts in Chiriqui province after heavy rain, wind gusts and electrical storms recorded in recent hours, Metro Libre reported.
The damage includes fallen trees, blocked roads, damage to power lines and impacts on homes and vehicles.
In Zapotal, in the San Lorenzo corregimiento, an electrical discharge incident left people dead and others injured, according to the SINAPROC report.
The competent authorities are carrying out the corresponding investigations.
Emergency services are maintaining monitoring, response and clearance work in the area.
