PANAMA CITY, August 10, 2026 – PANAMAX26 has reached its midpoint with 19 nations participating in joint training, Metro Libre reported, citing an announcement from U.S. Southern Command.

The exercise includes activities related to maritime and cyber operations, medical readiness and special-operations training.

According to the report, the objective is to strengthen interoperability and collective preparedness among the participating forces.

Southern Command said the training is aimed at improving the ability of participating countries to contribute to protection of the Panama Canal and maintain security and stability in the Western Hemisphere.

For Panama, the exercise carries strategic importance because the Canal remains a central global logistics route and a critical asset for the national economy.
