The construction of the Panama-Israel Horticultural Center of Excellence for Agricultural Innovation will turn the country into an agricultural hub for Latin America.

This was verified by the Minister of Agricultural Development, Augusto Valderrama, during his tour of the El Ejido experimental station, in Los Santos, headquarters of this project.

During his visit, Valderrama commented that this center of excellence will help Panamanian and regional producers have access to the best tools to develop their production, with Israeli advice, since it will have state-of-the-art technology in irrigation, fertilization, satellite management, water management and actions to mitigate climate change, among other specialized agricultural issues.

Arnulfo Gutiérrez, who leads the progress of programs by scientific staff of the Institute of Agricultural Innovation of Panama (Idiap), said that the creation of the Panama-Israel Center of Horticultural Excellence for Agricultural Innovation, through an agreement that will be signed soon, will place ” Panama as a technological hub for the agricultural sector”.

The Minister of Mida highlighted that the advances within Idiap “demonstrate that Panama is working to be at the forefront in different aspects of the agricultural sector, benefiting the entire country.”

Bovine genetics, cashew cultivation, rational management of invasive insects, protected horticulture, agroclimatic network and the installation of food and milk quality laboratories were some of the projects that made their progress known, during the visit of the authorities of the sector farmer, private company and producers, to El Ejido.

The authorities also visited the project for protected crops in warm tropical conditions, aimed at associations of small producers, who will be trained to develop infrastructures that are friendly to the environment and that do not cause the greenhouse effect, with which they will be able to have a better production. .
