Fishermen from Bocas del Toro and the Ngäbe-Buglé region will have 51 days, a special period, to catch the Caribbean spiny lobster ( Panulirus argus ), based on Resolution No. 017 of the Aquatic Resources Authority of Panama (Arap).
The authorization published in the Official Gazette 29757-A grants a special authorization for the capture of the crustacean to fishermen in the township of Tierra Oscura and in the community of Isla Tigre, of the township of Bocas del Toro, in addition to those in the townships of Bahía Azul, Kusapín and Tobobe, in the region.
The closed period for the Caribbean spiny lobster for the period 2023, began on March 1 until April 9 and will run from June 1 to August 21.
The resolution establishes that the Caribbean spiny lobster will only be marketed in commercial premises that have the Ocular Inspection Certificate issued by the Arap on February 15.
The regional directorates of the ARAP must generate a report on the total volume of tails and lobsters extracted and traded, as well as a biological sampling to determine the ranges of sizes and sexes of the lobsters.
