The Embassy of the United States in Panama published on the morning of this Thursday, July 27, a new video with testimonies from irregular migrants, who narrate the dangers they experienced when crossing the Darien jungle.

This video is part of his campaign, which began at the end of Title 42, which governed migration at US borders during the covid-19 pandemic.

This year a campaign is being implemented to disseminate through social networks the realities experienced when crossing the border between Panama and Colombia. These messages are also broadcast on the radio in the province of Darién.

In the new video, which was distributed by the US embassy’s social networks, people are warned that crossing the border is illegal and extremely dangerous.

“Do not put your life at risk, do not take this dangerous journey,” warns the diplomatic delegation in the production of two minutes and 15 seconds.

The testimonies of the migrants reveal the harsh conditions they lived in and how they experienced the danger of being robbed or verifying that fellow travelers died during the journey.

This group of people tells how they were deceived by acquaintances or neighbors, who only told them about the good part of the trip, but omitted all the dangers that the Darién plug contains.

They also remember that the Government of the United States works with that of Panama and the rest of the partners in the region to ensure a humane, safe and orderly migration.

Last April it was reported that police forces from Panama and Colombia, with the support of the United States, would carry out a campaign in the Darien jungle to stop the irregular crossing of migrants.

On July 21, the Minister of Public Security, Juan Manuel Pino, reported that a total of 226,460 irregular migrants had entered Panama through the Darién jungle on their way to the United States.

Pino emphasized that with these amounts of migrants at the end of 2023, more than 400,000 irregular migrants from countries in the Americas, Africa, and Oceania will enter the country on their journey to the United States.
