It is estimated that for the years 2030, 2050 and 2070, Panama will reflect an increase in maximum daytime and minimum night temperatures, for this the country is preparing to update its Nationally Determined Contribution (CDN).
During this space, countries determine their goals and commitments to mitigate greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions that cause climate change and adapt to the adverse effects of climate change.
“Panama hopes to increase its climate commitments to the highest possible levels and with the most up-to-date climate information, and in this way lay the foundations for inclusive, resilient and low-GHG emission development,” said Ligia Castro, director of Climate Change at the Ministry of Environment.
Castro has planned a review, together with the key actors, of the goals and progress in the implementation of the commitments presented at the end of 2020 by the country before the international community in its fight against the climate crisis.
The MiAmbiente official explained that in the latest available information from the National GHG Inventory, it is revealed that Panama is a net carbon sink country, in addition to advances in metrics and adaptation indicators that the country has advanced.
Panama has twenty-nine commitments in ten priority areas and sectors that propose actions with great potential for mitigation and adaptation to climate change.
Javier Martínez, climate change analyst at MiAmbiente, Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) are the essential element of the Paris Agreement, and constitute the actions that the parties (signatory countries) commit to comply with in order to achieve the reduction objectives of emissions and increased resilience.
All countries party to the Paris Agreement must present their NDCs and update them every five years,
