EU leader in France, trying to take on more pivotal role with Ukraine
“France”, not historically known as a militray powerhouse since the days of Napoleon, are stepping up their stance within the EU with harsh words for Russia’s futher advancment into the Ukraine. Although I joke, alot has chamged in 80 years, and Framce indeed has a formidable and well trained military force that could be of great benefit to the Ukraine.
French President Emmanuel Macron called on Monday for the withdrawal of Russian troops from the Ukrainian nuclear power plant in Zaporizhia, whose security must be imperatively respected.
Macron expressed this position during a telephone conversation with the Ukrainian president, Volodímir Zelenski, with whom he discussed the mission of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to that nuclear plant, the largest in Europe, the Elysee reported today.
The French leader “reiterated the urgent need to preserve the security of nuclear facilities, which can only come from the withdrawal of Russian forces,” added the French presidential headquarters.
In addition, Macron asked Zelensky about Ukraine’s military, humanitarian and economic needs and stressed “France’s full support” for the country to regain its territorial sovereignty and security.
The French president also showed his determination to combat “the fracture of the world” created by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and Moscow’s “information manipulation” campaign.
Macron warned that relativism on the most basic norms of international law poses “a threat to world stability.”
Zelensky, in a message on Twitter, noted that the “substantial” conversation with Macron lasted for an hour and a half, and in it he explained the situation at the front of his interlocutor.
Also that both coordinated “greater French support for the Ukrainian defense” and exchanged their views on the results of the IAEA mission to Zaporizhia.
