Panama evaluates one year anniversary of China pact

With seven days to go until one year after the start of diplomatic relations between Panama and the People’s Republic of China , the government of President Juan Carlos Varela evaluated the progress of the actions undertaken.

Through a statement, the Presidency reported that in this cabinet on China – held on Monday, June 4, 2018 – the Minister of Commerce and Industries, Augusto Arosemena and the chief negotiator for the free trade agreement (FTA), Alberto Alemán Arias, presented the negotiation schedule of the Panama-China FTA, which was not disclosed.

The press release only highlights that this process will be launched on June 13, that “progress has been made” in the negotiations for the next signing of the FTA and that the Bank of China is planning the establishment of its regional headquarters in Panama.
