SINAPROC Strengthens Colón Base as Flood Incidents Dominate Emergency Load
COLÓN, August 9, 2026 – SINAPROC received infrastructure improvements at its Colón provincial base as part of a humanitarian assistance program linked to United States Southern Command, Metro Libre reported.
The improvements included roof repairs, window work and painting, creating safer and more functional conditions for personnel who maintain permanent operations in the province.
SINAPROC director general Omar Smith Gallardo highlighted the importance of international cooperation for strengthening disaster-risk management in Panama, according to the source report.
During the activity, officials reported that floods are the emergency most frequently handled by the institution. Between 2023 and 2026, SINAPROC recorded 1,678 flood cases nationwide.
The report also noted that floods, roof damage, structural collapses, landslides and fires affected 30,155 people during that period, showing the scale of recurring risk across the country.
In the same event framework, Panama firefighters received a donation of 106 pumps to strengthen wildfire response capacity.
