Authorities Move Materials for 22 New Homes in Guna Yala After Fire
GUNA YALA, August 9, 2026 – A housing-material transport operation for 22 families in Tubualá, Guna Yala, has been completed, according to Telemetro reporting on the Ministry of Housing and Territorial Planning.
Dayaneth Rodríguez, MIVIOT director of housing improvement, said the housing solutions show significant progress and are expected to be delivered in the coming days now that the required supplies are in place.
The operation required five barge trips by the National Aeronaval Service from Dock 3 in Colón, with support from Public Works Ministry cranes for loading. Each sea crossing took 18 hours and the final unloading was carried out using boats from the beneficiaries themselves.
Telemetro reported the total investment at B/.166,742.95, covering construction materials as well as land and maritime transport for families affected by a fire at the beginning of 2025.
The logistics underline the challenge of delivering public works to island and comarca communities, where distance, sea conditions and limited docking capacity can turn basic construction delivery into a major operation.
For the affected families, the transfer of materials is a concrete step from emergency recovery toward permanent housing, but completion will depend on the final construction schedule and site work.
