Telemetro and Metro Libre both reported the statement from the transit authority. The Metro said that once the event was identified, it implemented containment and mitigation measures with support from its specialized information-security team and competent authorities.

The institution said a technical investigation remains underway to determine the scope of the incident. It also said that, as a preventive step, it reinforced security measures intended to protect systems, technology infrastructure and institutional information.

The reports did not identify a public-service shutdown or disclose the nature of the incident, which means the confirmed facts are limited to detection, response, investigation and additional controls.

Cybersecurity risks in transport systems matter because metro networks depend on digital infrastructure for operations, administration, communications, payment systems and passenger information.

The incident also comes one day after experts warned that artificial intelligence is increasing the speed and sophistication of cyberattacks in Panama, adding urgency to public-sector cyber readiness.

Why it matters

Metro de Panama is critical urban infrastructure, so even a contained technology incident can raise questions about continuity, data security and public-sector cyber defenses.

What happens next

The Metro said it will communicate relevant updates through official channels while the technical review defines the scope of the incident.
