Requests presented to overhaul and review court nominations

The Association of Lawyers Force Gremial yesterday asked the Government to announce the parameters of evaluation for the selection of the two figures that will replace the judges of the Supreme Court of Justice Oydén Ortega (First Room) and Jerónimo Mejía (Second Chamber), whose periods expired in December 2017.

The organization, chaired by attorney Juan Carlos Araúz, urged the government through a statement to maintain objectivity during the review of the 153 nominations to judges in a commitment to equal opportunities.

“Each of the postulates deserves respect for their status as a legal professional and, as such, it is important to know the form and content of their evaluations,” said Araúz.

Through the letter, Fuerza Gremial indicated that those selected should be committed to strengthening the justice administration system, improving the quality of the education of lawyers and establishing mechanisms that highlight the role of legal professionals in the Panamanian society.

“The president, Juan Carlos Varela, has the unique opportunity in which Panamanian experts will put their knowledge in the field of law at the disposal of the best national interests. The diagnosis that the aspirants will make will help them to take the executive measures that allow to leave a concrete legacy in the matter of justice “, indicates the grouping.
