UPDATE: Guatemala volcano casualties continues to increase

At least 99 people died since Sunday in Guatemala because of a powerful eruption of the Fuego volcano that buried several communities with an avalanche of mud and burning ash, authorities reported Wednesday, June 5.

A report by the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (Inacif) indicated that the bodies of the organism entered the dead bodies of 99 people, victims of the volcanic eruption recorded on Sunday.

The document states that so far only 28 people have been identified. The volcano, 3,763 meters high and located 35 km southwest of the capital, recorded its strongest eruption in the last four decades. Data from the state Coordinator for Disaster Reduction (Conred) indicate that the fury of the colossus has also left 192 missing.
