State of Panamanian Prisons?? Don’t get arrested!!

Crime

Currently, our country’s prisons house more than 15,000 people deprived of their liberty. The state of the same does not facilitate reintegration into society. It is a fact that in our country some prisons, such as La Joya and La Joyita , present problems because they do not cover the basic needs of the prison population, such as good nutrition, within acceptable standards, potable water, adequate medical attention, and where they do not work or there are no systems to carry out physiological activities. There is a high percentage of inmates who do not yet have a firm conviction and are waiting to be tried even though there is the possibility of being innocent. At some point, the criminal procedure system of our country will be able to operate correctly and fairly? Is it possible that a reform of this system will be managed to avoid delays in reaching a verdict?

In the cells you can see improvised beds, hammocks and others, where more than 10 people must manage to live day by day within these 4 walls. We have seen in several reports how the prisoners are in precarious and unhealthy conditions. Is this in any way against human rights?
