While visiting Cuba I certainly did not expect it to be anything other than a country torn at the seams by poverty and a 50 year embargo. As is the case in most of the deprived places I have visited for various reasons in life ( Haiti, Indonesia, Brazil, Dominican Republic, etc). Outside of the small areas that are clearly defined for tourists, the rest of the country is EXTREMELY poor.

I was in Varadero, which had a lovely unspoiled beach, yet was indeed poor and stuck in Bautista mode. I did NOT see anything like this video appearing today. I sincerely hope that these places, which have a wealth of natural beauty, can actually be improved to the point where the ENTIRE population of the country can prosper.
