This was reported to the newspaper La Prensa by Rodolfo Sabatela, spokesman for the group of migrants, who said that the authorities of the National Border Service (Senafront) have detained them and that they also do not give them access to food and health services.
Sabatela added that the place is accompanied by 130 other migrants from India. “There are only beds for 120 people, we have to bathe in a river that is very dirty, which has caused skin rashes and we do not have money either,” he said.
The spokesman of the islanders noted that officials of the National Service of Migration (SNM) came to the place, however, said they did not provide the necessary help. He also stated that these migrants seek refuge with the National Office for the Attention of Refugees of Panama (Onpar ).
Commissioner Miguel Lopez, deputy director of the SNM, confirmed the presence of the group of irregulars in the province of Darién and ensured that these do not meet basic standards of entry into the country.
