In his address as pontiff, the priest called for peace, dialogue, and unity in the Church, paid tribute to Pope Francis, and recalled his pastoral visit to Peru.

From the central balcony of St. Peter’s Basilica , the newly elected Pope Leo XIV delivered his first address to the world, marked by a powerful call for peace, dialogue, and the unity of the Church. In a serene but firm voice, the new Pontiff began his speech with a phrase laden with symbolism: “Peace be with you all.”

This greeting, inspired by the first welcome of the rising Christ, was the guiding thread of a deeply spiritual message, inviting the faithful—regardless of their place in the world—to welcome God’s peace into their hearts. “Evil will not prevail,” he affirmed with conviction, calling humanity to walk without fear, united with one another and with God.

Prevost is a Peruvian national and works in the Chiclayo region.

True to his Augustinian identity, the pontiff recalled the words of Saint Augustine: “With you I am a Christian, and for you I am a bishop,” underscoring his willingness to serve through fraternity. “ We can all unite to create that home where we are ready to serve, because God has prepared us for it ,” he expressed.
