Torrijos brings up topic of “electricity” compliance as major election point.

I wonder if the operation of a “business” that has been run for 20 years without the necessary concession to sell utility services will be looked at?  Or does Bocas del Toro not exist in this regard?

The candidate raised the urgent need to supply water to Panamanians and exploit the areas of logistics, agribusiness and agrotourism and implement the “My First Job” project for youth

The presidential candidate for the Popular Party (PP), Martín Torrijos Espino, stated that the “electricity market is a disaster” at the national level, affecting Panamanians both in their businesses and white goods, and the Public Services Authority ( ASEP) does not put a stop to this serious situation that is the daily bread of the population.

“The regulator was left working for the companies and not for the Panamanians, with this they are guaranteeing that the electric companies make money and the Panamanians pay more charges to the electric service,” said the former president during the Presidential Forum: Environment, Energy, Technology and Education , organized by the Technological University of Panama (UTP).

He criticized that at the last minute the government invented tenders with “name and surname” and diverted the electricity market to benefit a few, since the energy distribution companies do whatever they want, because they have someone to defend them, while no one protects the rights of Panamanians.

“It is inconceivable that a person who belongs to a company or an economic group controls electricity in Panama; I am not going to do it and I have no conflict of interest; I am not going to waste time improvising, I am going to regain confidence and we will act in favor of the Panamanians,” he highlighted.

Torrijos Espino presented to hundreds of UTP students his government proposals for generating jobs, strengthening the health and education system, attracting new investments and improving the collection, treatment and final disposal of waste.

He raised the urgent need to supply water to Panamanians and exploit the areas of logistics, agribusiness and agrotourism and implement the “My First Job” project for youth, among others.

“We are going to govern with the best Panamanians and we will work tirelessly to achieve the construction of a new Panama,” concluded the former ruler.
