Minsa Pushes Cardiovascular Prevention Training for Health Workers
PANAMA CITY, August 9, 2026 – Panama Health Ministry personnel from different regions took part in scientific update training focused on cardiovascular prevention, Metro Libre reported.

The training was led by Dr. Ana Lalyre, a cardiologist and internal medicine specialist, and focused on strengthening health-worker skills in prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease.
The session covered conditions including high blood pressure, diabetes, dyslipidemia and other cardiometabolic diseases, with emphasis on improving patient access to services and evidence-based medicines.
Dr. Lalyre said one major challenge is ensuring that patients not only receive treatment but also meet therapeutic goals and maintain adherence to prescribed medicines.
The activity also stressed that hypertension and high cholesterol can progress silently, leaving many people unaware until they experience severe complications such as a heart attack or stroke.
Officials warned against self-medication and the use of supplements without scientific support, noting that treatments should be indicated and monitored by health professionals.
Why it matters
Cardiovascular disease prevention depends on early detection, sustained treatment and trained primary-care teams across the country.
What happens next
Minsa is expected to continue strengthening regional health-worker capacity while urging patients to follow supervised treatment and avoid unsupported products.
