In order to prevent tons of garbage from reaching the Bay of Panama, the Marea Verde Association placed a containment barrier in the Matías Hernández River.

After the downpour of the afternoon of this Saturday, April 6, the problem of waste in the Panamanian rivers was evident, and especially in the areas that crosses the Matías Hernández River.

The Marea Verde Association, which already had a pilot plan that involved the placement of the barrier to contain the plastic in the area of the National Police substation in Costa del Este, managed to prevent the waste from reaching the Bay of Panama.

This type of barrier has helped communities in other countries mitigate the effects of water pollution with plastic.

For this reason, the Marea Verde Association carries out this pilot plan in Panama. The barrier was anchored on both banks of the flow and is designed to adapt to the fluctuations of the river current.
