Previously corrupt Odebrecht, back in the running for Metro contracts

Infrastructure

The Brazilian construction company Odebrecht returned to the bids of the Government of Panama.

Odebrecht is interested in Metro works
The company, which confessed to paying bribes millionaires to get public works contracts between 2010 and 2014, participated in the approval meetings of the extension of line 1 of the Metro to Villa Zaíta and the branch line 2 to the airport Tocumen

The acts of delivery of proposals of these two contracts are scheduled for September and October, and the government’s criterion is that the company would no longer have any legal impediment to apply.

Odebrecht has already submitted proposals in two tenders by the Ministry of Public Works , although without success.

In December 2016, the Executive prohibited the participation of Odebrecht in bids until the company collaborated in the investigations that followed the cases of corruption, a condition that would have been fulfilled with the signature in July 2017 of an agreement between the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the construction company. This collaboration agreement with Odebrecht included a fine for the company for $ 220 million.

Have to post. This actually just occurred to me.

Perhaps, being an ex-pat and living here has made me obtuse over the years to something that is very clear.  Panamanians as a WHOLE,  do not speak English very well. (if at all). We have travelled to Mexico, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic to name a few. All have in general …
