They ask to practice rainwater harvesting
Under the motto ” Groundwater, making the invisible visible”, this March 22 is commemorated, World Water Day, to raise awareness among the world’s population about the importance of this vital liquid.
During this day, from the Ministry of Health (Minsa) they reported that they promote the protection of sources, the conservation of hydrographic basins towards a culture of water that promotes a change in the efficiency of its use over time, contributing to the scope of the objectives of sustainable development, this being a necessary resource for life and health.
Nicolás Alvarado, general director of the Potable Water and Sanitation Subsector (DISAPAS) recommended that the population in general, businessmen, workers, farmers, students, officials take measures to make efficient use of water, repair internal leaks in the home, practice rainwater harvesting for agriculture, livestock and at home.
He indicated that Disapas has a national and an external investment budget, which is used for bilateral and multilateral programs.
The multilateral budget was earmarked for the benefit of the communities of the Guna Yala Comarca and the Madugandi Comarca. The bilateral is used in investments in the district of Kankintu, Comarca Ngabe-Buglé.
Minsa actions in support of communities of the Colmena Plan
MINSA trains the boards of directors and the community in general on topics such as:
- Community organization and administration,
- Water quality and protection of sources micrometering
- Operation and maintenance of aqueducts with a gender and intercultural approach.
- hygiene and sanitation
The Minsa, through DISAPAS, the governing body of the Potable Water and Sanitation Sub-Sector, has as one of its main functions the formulation and coordination of policies, as well as the planning of the sub-sector with an emphasis on communities with less than 1,500 inhabitants. , belonging to the Beehive Plan.
Activities on World Water Day
According to Alvarado, the health regions at the national level will carry out various activities on the occasion of World Water Day from March 22 to 26.
In the Health region of Los Santos, the opening of the Cultural Program of Water for the Minsa will take place; in Herrera, training will be given to the Administrative Boards of Rural Aqueducts (JAARS), at the district level.
While, in the province of Panamá Oeste, the JAARS will be chosen.
In the province of Colón, in the community of Cuipo, a meeting of water management boards will be held.
For its part, in Panama East, in the community of Piriatí, training and medical sessions will be provided. A clean-up day will be held on March 28 in the Mamony River.
In the province of Bocas del Toro, teaching will be given on the use of water and the distribution of posters in the community of Bonyic. On the other hand, in the Metropolitan region, videos alluding to water conservation and the JAARS will be shared.
Finally, in the province of Veraguas, teaching will be given on the maintenance and operation of rural aqueducts and the quality of water for human consumption within the framework of the activity.
