Neymar appeared Thursday night at the police headquarters in Rio de Janeiro to give evidence in the case that investigates him for having disseminated intimate images of a woman who accuses him of rape, in order to show his innocence.

The attacker, aged 27, entered the City of Police in a wheelchair, due to the right ankle injury on Wednesday that took him out of the friendly match of the national team against Qatar and that he broadcast it from the Copa America that the next week starts in Brazil.

Shortly before the match against Qatar, Najila Trindade Mendes de Souza broke the silence she had kept since last Saturday when she denounced Neymar for violating her in mid-May in Paris and reiterated before the television cameras SBT that she was forced by the player to have sex without condoms, and in a violent way. “I was a victim of rape,” he said.

And in the 17th minute of the friendly match in Brasilia, he had to limp out of the court. The diagnosis later indicated that he had suffered a “ruptured ligament in the right ankle” and that “due to the severity of the injury, he will not have physical conditions or enough recovery time to participate in the Copa América Brasil 2019”.

The continental tournament will begin on June 14, with a Brazil-Bolivia match in Sao Paulo.

Paris-Saint-Germain announced that in the next 72 hours Neymar will be evaluated by the team’s medical department to define the process and recovery time.

The recovery of the most expensive player in the world will go hand in hand with a judicial battle in which his image could be harmed, both before his millions of followers on social networks and the companies that sponsor him.

Neymar pleads not guilty to the rape allegations and says he fell into a “trap” for extortion purposes.

But to test his version, he posted a video with exchanges of messages and intimate photos with the woman for two months.

The day of Wednesday still added a dark chapter to this story, with the diffusion in the networks of a stretch of a video that records a supposed second encounter between Neymar and Najilda Trindade in a hotel in Paris. The fragment, one minute long, shows the woman getting upset and beating Neymar while accusing her of having “assaulted” her and left her “alone” the night before.
