HOME SWEET HOME: Life after Ex-Pat Quarantine

OP ED: by James “JB” Bryson

For my many Ex-Pat friends and acquaintances, I can tell you stepping back foot on American soil after NOT being permitted to has been surreal.

The feeling of landing into Miami International Airport last week pumped a huge blast of oxygen into my lungs. Make no mistake, we don’t regret our decision made 9 years ago. Part of it was only being 2.5 hrs away from our 2 year old niece at the time. But COVID has changed that view irrevocably.

The things that got me pumped up before seem a distant second to what I hold dear. Family. I truly hope that many are taking advantage of the recent opening and going to see loved ones.

Miami is “loosely” practicing the social distancing, as beaches are open and so are places to eat and bars. There is indeed separation of tables, and businesses seem to be following guidelines, but people are still,,,,,well “people”. We can’t police the world.

We went to Coral Gables and I was able to swim with Penelope who has indeed grown 5 years in 6 months. My daughter cooked my favorite meal and I could not have been happier.

It just does seem “surreal” as after a while in San Francisco, Panama- we like many did feel TRAPPED. I hope the world learns from this as we have even modest freedoms taken away and it does hurt,

The talk of the town here is now centering on the upcoming ELECTION and what lies beyond. Please continue to visit the site and let Josito see what he has up his sleeve.

Saludos my friends- Good to be home.
