Corredor Sur to Close 16 Hours Between Paitilla and Costa del Este
PANAMA CITY, July 31, 2026 – A 16-hour closure is scheduled for the Corredor Sur between Paitilla and Costa del Este as crews carry out the lifting of two 53-meter beams over the marine section.
TVN Noticias reported that Empresa Nacional de Autopistas announced the closure for both directions from 11:00 p.m. Saturday, August 1, until 3:00 p.m. Sunday, August 2. The work forms part of the expansion of the Costa del Este and Hipodromo interchanges.
The closure will affect one of the capital area most important mobility corridors. Even though it is scheduled across the weekend, drivers moving between the city, Costa del Este, Tocumen and nearby neighborhoods could face significant changes to usual routes.
According to TVN, some access points toward Tocumen will remain available, including the Costa del Este exit toward Tocumen and certain Chanis access routes. Several entrances toward Paitilla and Tocumen will close during the operation.
ENA recommended that drivers plan trips, use available routes and follow traffic staff and temporary signage. The agency described the beam installation as a high-complexity maneuver.
The roadwork is intended to increase operational capacity on the Corredor Sur and improve circulation around Costa del Este and Hipodromo, but the short-term impact will be a major weekend adjustment.
