Five Deaths Reported Amid Vomiting and Diarrhea Outbreak in Ngabe Bugle
NGABE BUGLE, July 20, 2026 – Health authorities are responding to an emergency in the communities of Alto Palmar and Valle Bonito after five people died following respiratory symptoms, diarrhea and vomiting.
Telemetro reported that the deaths included older adults and children, including a three-year-old girl whose death was registered during the weekend. The reported symptoms include headache, fever and cough along with gastrointestinal illness.
Three people had been transferred by helicopter for hospital care, according to the report. The Ministry of Health is working to enter the difficult-access sectors, provide medical attention and investigate the origin of the outbreak.
The case highlights the challenge of health response in remote areas where geography can delay diagnosis, transport and supplies.
