Tug Captains creating embargo at Canal

The five Neopanamax ships scheduled to transit this Thursday for the new set of locks could not complete the transit because the tugboat captains refused to comply with an order from the administration.
Since the beginning of the third set of locks, inaugurated on June 26, 2016, the Canal administration has assigned three sailors to the tugboat in front of the Neopanamax vessel, even though the navigation regulations indicate that only two seafarers are needed .
The administration decided that from April 12, only the two assigned by regulation would go, since the experience in these operations has been surpassed, a situation that was not addressed by the tugboats.
After the blockade of the Canal workers, an MSC vessel was moored for several hours at the Agua Clara lock in the Atlantic without being able to complete the southbound traffic.
This generates an impact in the operations since it affects the programming of the following day and the service could not be given to those clients, putting at risk the income of the entity.
The Panama Canal Authority (ACP) announced that fulfilling its responsibility to guarantee the reliability of transit operations, initiated a process to sanction some captains of tugboats that affected the uninterrupted transit through the neopanamax locks, by refusing to comply wit
