Immigration update concerning influx from Venezuela

A group of international diplomats and human rights workers led by OAS Secretary General Luis Almagro visited the border area between Colombia and Venezuela on Friday to discuss ways to resolve the Venezuelan migrant crisis.

Almagro said that all American countries should work together to help the thousands of Venezuelan migrants fleeing hyperinflation and the shortage of food and medicine in their country.

A day earlier, Almagro called the Venezuelan government “dictatorship” and said the crisis will only be resolved if democracy is restored.

The working group was scheduled to meet with government officials and aid groups in the Colombian city of Cucuta and examine ways to provide assistance to migrants.
