Amid cluster—- of Venezuela immigration, numbers decrease recently. Is that GOOD or BAD?

Immigration

After the United States announced new measures to control Venezuelan irregular migration, the entry of these citizens into Panama through the Darien jungle has decreased significantly, according to data from the National Migration Service (SNM). In the last three days they have counted 624 Venezuelans, out of a total of 2,292 people.

Through a press release, the SNM reported that so far in 2022, Panama has served as a transit for 208,866 people, a record figure, but of that total some 148,052 people are of Venezuelan nationality.

However, on October 12, the Department of Homeland Security of the United States (DHS) reported that it would expel all irregular Venezuelan migrants who cross the border through Mexico.

The DHS announcement took effect and on Thursday, October 27, the SNM recorded that of the 477 irregular migrants who entered the country through Darién, only 54 are of Venezuelan nationality.

For the month of October, the entity counted 57,304 people from the flow of irregular migrants, of which 40,360 are Venezuelans.

These irregular migrants in general distributed among the four reception stations total 1,634 people, of whom 1,123 are men, 230 women, 149 boys and 132 girls.
