Using trolleys, rakes, shovels and plastic bags, at least 100 volunteers cleaned up on Saturday, July 13, the vicinity of Isla Iguana, district of Pedasí, province of Los Santos.

Miguel Batista, mayor of Pedasí and manager of the initiative, said that this is the first day of winter clean-up in this wildlife refuge, visited by nationals and foreigners alike.

He added that on this beach a lot of plastic, cans, bottles and tree branches were collected.

The mayor spoke of the importance of becoming aware and of not throwing garbage in the rivers and ditches, since much of the garbage that was located in this tourist site is not the product of the visitors but of the marine current. “A lot of it [trash] comes from the capital city,” he said.

MI AMBIENTE sucks generally, but they are RIGHT on this point.

The equivalent of the “EPA” in PANAMA is “Mi AMBIENTE”. Who in my opinion are a “rudderless” agency that is generally “LOST at SEA” in terms of what is BEST for PANAMA environmentally. That being said, the attempts to “domesticate” and make PETS of wildlife is wrong on many levels, …
