A shipment with 898 turtle eggs and the apprehension of a person was the result of an operation carried out by the National Police in the district of Tonosí, province of Los Santos.

This was confirmed this morning by Alfredo Icaza, Chief of the Los Santos Police Zone.

Icaza explained that the operation was carried out after receiving an anonymous call that warned about the mobilization of these turtle embryos.

He said that indeed, when he searched the vehicle, he found several cartridges containing turtle eggs.

He added that this case has already been passed to the Ministry of Environment who will be responsible for defining whether it is an administrative offense or an ecological crime to be taken to the Public Ministry.

It is presumed that these eggs are from the Isla Cañas Wildlife Refuge.
